4 Valuable DIY Hacks
Earlier this year, while I was 8 months pregnant with my second baby, my husband and I moved into and began renovating our new home. It’s been a slow burn getting our space put together since we have two under two, but it’s getting there! While there are so many beautiful stores I would love to shop from for home decor, it can definitely get pricey.
Since pivoting my career from fashion stylist to coach, I’ve really missed working with my hands. Though journaling is a therapeutic outlet I enjoy and connects me with my clients, I still found my self missing something from my former life. I had to do some soul searching to pinpoint exactly what that was. I had taken stock in the things I no longer enjoyed from my former career but I hadn’t checked in on the things that still gave me life. Turns out I was missing good make over. We can’t turn all of our passions into careers but we can tap into our passions and find space from them in our lives. I truly believe in diving deep into our wheel of life and finding a place for everything that lifts you up.
Now I am a firm believer in spending the cash to get quality products, but luckily, diving into a DIY helped not only my pocket book but, my need to create and make over as well.
So today I wanted to share with you, some great home decor DIY projects I’ve been doing lately.
One of my favorite pieces in our new home is the IKEA Ivar Cabinet. Now, at first glance, this piece isn’t anything special (no shade!) But that’s the beauty of it! With such a blank canvas, there is so much you can do with this piece of furniture. I found an amazing DIY idea from Grillo Designs and decided to go with it. To begin with, I used a wood-glue to attached wooden doles for texture. Next, I painted the entire cabinet with an earthy tone by Benjamin Moore called Vintage Vogue. Lastly, I changed out the hardware with these cool legs!
If you’re not huge into the whole DIY process, there are so many quick and easy things you can do to spiff up some of your current decor. Even if you’re in a rental space, you can find some incredible ways to make your house feel like a home.
Take for example a dinghy laundry room. One of the easiest ways to create a new look in your space is with a simple backsplash. These stick on tiles are so easy to use, and it’s amazing how real they look. We used them in our own laundry room. Quick and painless!
Here are some of my affordable favorite hardware pieces these days:
We put these pulls in our master closet and swapped the hardware out on our guest bedroom nightstands for these. We used these pulls for a dresser we painted for Norah until her new dresser arrives, and added these beautiful knobs to the laundry room cabinets for a modern and minimal feel. Liam’s toy chest turned desk got a major upgrade as well by adding new handles and a tabletop!
