My Top 8 Eco & Design Friendly Kids Toys Lines

Okay, I have a confession; I hate kids’ toys. I know that makes me sound like a mean old mommy but I can't help it! The bright colors and the loud noises all make me less zen than I should be. I also can’t help but be a little selfish. My husband and I have worked hard to create a home we love and I’m not about to give up my sanctuary space to some primary colored plastics. But as we all know kids love plastic toys, plus they keep them entertained.

Of course, my home needs to function for not only me but my kids - so I’ve come to a compromise. I don't buy the plastic, but I don’t stop people from buying them for my babies. So instead, I’ve learned how to organize and keep them out of sight when not in use!

Additionally, I’ve fallen in love with several eco-friendly and sustainable toy design lines. I’m a big fan of Montessori toy and sensory exploration toys. I love to see Liam use his imagination making these non-battery operated toys come to life! Below I’m giving you my 8 favorite brands to put on display, as well as hacks to keep the unsightly hidden.

My 8 Favorite Children’s Toy Lines:

How To Hide Them

Baskets, baskets everywhere! I love these from Pehr because they have handles and fold flat when they’re not in use. I organize all of Liam’s toys by type and then pull out a basket as needed for entertainment. Music basket, blocks, books, balls you name it. It also helps him identify what he’s working with. Shop the Pehr baskets here.

It’s unrealistic to think I’m not going to have toys for the kids even in the communal spaces in the house, so adult furniture that stores these items is the BEST. When I was looking for something to house the toys in the transition areas of our home, I looked for something affordable that I could get rid of when I’m out of the toy stage but visually pleasing to look at. Thanks to a DIY I found on @lonefoxhome I was able to give this IKEA bookcase an upgrade and provide a space for the toys to be easily accessed.

I’ll be sharing more of my hacks when I give you the tour of Liam and Norah's rooms. Until then I hope you feel inspired to get creative and make the space you work so hard to create work for you as much as it works for your children!
